Abnormal superior trunk formation of brachial plexus: a case report and review of literature
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomical Variations - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 3
Abstract
Brachial plexus is a complicated network of nerves formed by fusion and splitting. Variations in the brachial plexus occur at the level of roots, trunks, cords and branches emanating from these structures. We observed a rare variation of formation of upper trunk of brachial plexus in upper right limb of female cadaver aged 70 years. This variation was observed in one limb out of total 28 limbs constituting 3.6%. The rare finding has great diagnostic and therapeutic implications and is of utmost use to anestheologists, radiologists, orthopaedic surgeons and anatomists.

Study of formation of pelvic somatic nerves
Variations are very commonly found in the formation of nerves. They may be prefixed or post fixed. Variable thickness of neural roots or their absences are also commonly seen. The pelvic nerves lie along the posterior pe...
A rare variation of the inferior mesenteric vein with clinical implications
Several variations of the inferior mesenteric vein have been previously described. However, this report presents a rare variation that has not yet been noted. In this case, the small inferior mesenteric vein drained into...
Significance of anatomical variations for clinical practice
Anatomical variations are an often encountered phenomenon and even though some have been described extensively in literature, many are still being reported for the first time. Clinical awareness of known and newly discov...
Bilateral pectoralis major and pectoralis quartus variants: A conjoined tendon passing through the inter tubercular groove
The pectoralis major has been described to insert on to the lateral lip of the intertubercular groove of the humerus. The pectoralis quartus is a variant that runs parallel to the lateral border of the pectoralis major....
Multiple renal vascular variations: A case series
Renal vascular abnormalities represent a heterogeneous group of diseases and etiologies. It is important to differentiate these vascular anomalies from other renal enhancing lesions prior to any attempt to perform any su...
