Journal Title: Journal of Advances in Social Science and Humanities - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 5

Abstract

This study is the result of observation at the location of the former mining community boiler at Pulau Singkep Kabupaten Lingga, Riau Islands province which is analyzed according to the environmental ethic perception. The environmental ethics, in this case, should be seen as an action or human behaviour that is supposed to the environment. In the context of his understanding, the ethics of the human environment must pay attention to moral norms and rules that regulate human behaviour in relation to nature and values and morals that animates human behaviour in relation to nature. The presence of bauxite mining activities has been proven to cause environmental pollution both on land and at seas, such as water and air pollution (pollution). The purpose of this study is to analyze the ethics of the community in the location of the former bauxite mine in Pulau Singkep Village Kabupaten Lingga. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Informants in this study amounted to 8 people. The location of this research is located in Pulau Singkep Village precisely in RW 004. This research uses Emile Durkheim social fact paradigm theory about values, norms, law, language, religion, and other life order. This social fact can be analyzed using environmental ethical theories that influence the lives of the people and the way of the view of nature in relation to humans as anthropocentrism and biocentrism. The results of this study found that ethically the environment of the local community is more anthropocentrism, in which the community takes nature as a tool to support only financial needs. In this connection, the values and norms that have not been created and the expecting behaviour of wages or compensation for nature often become the hope and purpose of life. The environmental degradation is derived from the social behaviour of the people who are more concerned with the compensation pay provided by the mining entrepreneurs without considering the environmental impact and the degradation of the quality of natural resources. The ethics of the community should be biocentrism, which assumes that nature must be valued for the needs of the next generation to come.
