Adaptation of Dispositional Hope Scale into Turkish: Validity and reliability study

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of Turkish form of Dispositional Hope Scale that was developed by C.R. Snyder, et al.. The study was conducted on 676 university students. Dispositional Hope Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale, Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Hopelessness Scale were used as data collection tools. It was found that total variance was explained as 61% in exploratory factor analysis and the items were gathered under two factors. Fit index values as the result of Confirmatory Factor Analysis were found GFI = .96, AGFI = .92, RMR = .08, NNFI = .94, RFI = .90, CFI = .96 and RMSEA = .077. Internal consistency coefficient was found 0.84 and test re-test reliability was found as 0.81 for Actuating Thinking Dimension, 0.78 for Alternative Ways Thinking Dimension and 0.86 for the total points of the scale. The psychometric properties of the Turkish form of DHS was found at acceptable level at the end of the analysis conducted and concluded that the scale could be used as a tool for measuring the hope levels of university students.
