Adaptive Impulsive noise mitigation scheme for Broadband Power Line Communication system

Journal Title: International Journal of Research and Engineering - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 2

Abstract

Broadband Power Line Communication (BPLC) is a popular technology that utilizes the existing power line networks for the transmission of information. Impulsive noise is one of the main causes of performance degradation in the system. Several impulsive countering strategies are proposed in the literature and in particular, the clipping and blanking approaches provide a very good trade-off between the noise mitigation and the complexity of the implementation. In this paper a threshold optimization technique is proposed for asynchronous impulsive noise reduction. Also an adaptive impulsive noise mitigation system is proposed by combining impulsive parameter estimation and threshold optimization for strongly and weakly disturbed noise environments. The results show that the proposed method improves the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of the BPLC system.
