Abstract
Research is an activity that describes the problem created for a specific reason, collects information that will lead towards the findings and achieves the answer of the research question after constructing the research model. Positivist paradigm has ruled the research science for approximately a century with an understanding of unity of science or logic or with an explanation that a scientific approach has to fulfill the logic of science. In this period some methodical researches have comprised problems depending upon the deductive approach of qualitative research models. Though positivist approach has shown successful results in scientific fields since it employs standardized data collection methods like questionnaires or scales and it tests present theories, rules, axioms, it has failed in the fields of natural logics, sciences in addition to humanities, social sciences and arts where standardized data collection methods proved to be inadequate in explaining social and personal issues. Starting from this point, a new science philosophy called post-positivist paradigm expressed its criticism towards positivist paradigm which created insufficient scientific solutions to social problems related with human. In the last quarter of the 20th century while the paradigm war between qualitative and quantitative research methodologies is going on, a third paradigm called Mixed Method Research using qualitative and quantitive research together in social and human sciences, is proposed. There is a great conflict between researchers about the most embraced basic research methodology of the social and human sciences, qualitative, quantitative or mixed method. The aim of this study, is therefore questions the usability of mixed method research in textile design researches, examines the limits of quantitative and qualitative methods as well as it explains the models of mixed method researches.
