AHMED PASHA’S UNPUBLISHED POEMS IN HIS PUBLISHED DIVAN

Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 54

Abstract

Ahmed Pasha (d. 1497), who was a great contributor to the classical style of Divan poetry, is known as “sultanu’ş şuʿarâ”of the 15th century. Although Sehî Tezkiresi mentions that there is a mesnevi called "Leylâ ile Mecnûn", the his only known work is the Divan which Sultan II Beyazid arranged on the order. The most comprehensive work on Ahmed Pasha’s Divan, which has many copies both at home and abroad, was carried out by Prof. Dr. Ali Nihat Tarlan in 1966. It is known that many poems are not included in this edition, which is made by comparing 14 copies in İstanbul libraries and 1 copy in Bursa (Orhan) library. As a result of our investigations, two copies of Ahmed Pasha Divan were reached and these two copies were examined. First of these is the replicas of the National Library of Germany (Berlin) (Arşiv no: Ms. or. oct. 2127), which were copied in 1481. This copy is important because it was copied during the period when Ahmed Pasha was alive. The other is the copy in the French National Library "Regius". It is seen that these two copies have not been examined before in the studies on the Ahmed Pasha Divan. In this study, 4 gazelles, 2 nazm, 2 kıt’a and 2 mufred, who were not present in the divan published by Ali Nihat Tarlan, were included in the study of two copies of Ahmed Pasha Divan obtained from Germany and France.
