Abstract
The article reveals the terminological essence of the historical phrase "Ukrainian / Ukrainian People". On the basis of historical-linguistic analysis and other methods of studying texts of official documentation of the Zaporozhian Army of the second half of the XVII century. the scientist concludes: the then understanding of the word "people", which went from the archaic perception of the people as a separate ethnic group living in the eastern provinces of the Crown of the Polish and southeastern provinces of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, evolved in the direction of the name of the Zaporizhzhya State Unification All-Public Unified Army states, that is, one can speak of the initial process of creation during the middle - second half of the XVII century. an early modern Ukrainian nation.
