Alpha(1) and alpha(2)-adrenoreceptor antagonists in streptozotocin- and vincristine-induced hyperalgesia.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2008, Vol 60, Issue 4
Abstract
The effect of alpha(1)- and alpha(2)-adrenoreceptor antagonists (prazosin and yohimbine, respectively) on streptozotocin (STZ)- and vincristine (VIN)-induced hyperalgesia in rats was studied. In two experimental models, yohimbine (1.0 mg/kg ip) completely abolished STZ and VIN-induced hyperalgesia. This effect was markedly prolonged in diabetic rats. Prazosin (0.3 mg/kg ip) attenuated and delayed development of STZ-induced hyperalgesia. In VIN-elicited neuropathy, the administration of prazosin not only delayed hyperalgesia but also produced antinociception. After cessation of drug administration, a significant decrease in nociceptive threshold was observed. The obtained results seem to indicate that both alpha(1)- and alpha(2)-adrenoreceptors are engaged in diabetic (STZ) and toxic (VIN) neuropathy.

Study of the interaction of glutamatergic and nitrergic signalling in conditions of the experimental airways hyperreactivity.
Background: Glutamatergic and nitrergic system participate in the control of respiratory system functions. It is only little information regarding a possible interaction of both systems in the airways hyperractivity. We...
Crosstalk between contact hypersensitivity reaction and antidepressant drugs.
Allergic contact dermatitis is a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction mediated by hapten-specific T cells. Many cell types, inflammatory mediators and cytokines are involved in this reaction. Contact hypersensitivity i...
Biochemical and histologic study of lethal cisplatin nephrotoxicity prevention by mirtazapine.
Background: Cisplatin is a platinum derivative frequently used in the chemotherapy of different solid tumors. This biochemical and histologic study investigated a possible protective effect of mirtazapine with regard to...

Characterization of the naturally occurring Arg344His variant of the human 5-HT 3A receptor.
The present study aimed at examining the function and pharmacological properties of the naturally occurring Arg344His variant of the human 5-HT(3A) receptor, identified in a schizophrenic patient. In intact human embryon...
