„Amerykańskie Wilno”. O przyrodniczych zamiłowaniach Tymoteusza Karpowicza

Abstract

The author of the article compares the writer‘s poetic and horticultural activity. She is interested in Vilnius heritage (especially that connected with Stanisław Bonifacy Jundziłł), which shaped the natural sensitivity of the poet, and the famed home garden at Oak Park (the suburbs of Chicago), or, as Ryszard Sawicki suggested, Karpowicz’s “American Wilno”. The author of the text asks about the discord between the consciously worked-out lack of sensuality of the poet‘s poems and the sensual richness of the gardener who describes his attitude to nature in interviews and letters. She also propounds the thesis that Karpowicz’s poetry can be interpreted as a conceptual escape from the garden and sensuality, from the imposing and never overstretched nature of nature, and from this perspective it may be viewed also as yet another form of Karpowicz’s “creative negation”. Karpowicz-creator breaks with referentiality embedded in a concrete, sensual experience; he shifts attention from what is found to what is potential. He does not seem to think back to the “place on Earth”; he rather actively creates its own “place in existence”. He creates it − like his “American Vilnius” – from scratch. L’auteure de l’article compare l’activité poétique et horticulturale de l’écrivain. Elle s’intéresse au patrimoine de Vilnius (surtout de Stanisław Bonifacy Jundziłł) qui avait formé la sensibilité pour la nature du poète et au fameux jardin à Oak Park (dans la banlieue de Chicago) qui était selon Ryszard Sawicki « Vilnius américain » de Karpowicz. L’auteure du texte s’interroge sur la dissonance entre l’asensualité des poèmes consciemment élaborée et la richesse sensuelle des sensations du jardinier qui définit sa relation avec la nature dans les entretiens et les lettres. Elle formule aussi une thèse que la poésie de Karpowicz peut être analysée comme une fuite conceptuelle du jardin, de la sensualité, du concret de la nature s’imposant et incomparable et dans cette approche – encore comme une forme de la « négation créative » de Karpowicz. Karpowicz-créateur rompt avec la référentialité ancrée dans une sensation concrète, sensuelle, il déplace l’attention de ceux qui est existant à ceux qui est potentiel. Il ne revient pas à son „endroit sur la Terre” mais il crée activement son propre « endroit dans l’existence » et il le crée tout comme « Vilnius américain » à partir de zéro.
