An adult case with visceral leishmaniasis: the evaluation of the diagnosis and treatment options

Journal Title: JOURNAL OF CONTEMPORARY MEDICINE - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2

Abstract

Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by the protozoon Leishmania. Even though cutaneous Leishmaniasis is endemic in our country, visceral leishmaniasis is seen as sporadic. Hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia, and hypergammaglobulinemia were diagnosed in the examinations of a 21-year old boy having fever, weakness, and anorexia. The diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis was determined serologically, and it was treated successfully with liposomal amphotericin B. The patient is being reported for the discussion of visceral leishmaniasis diagnosis and the treatment options.
