An analysis and a criticism of a general acceptance in the history of quranic exegesis: Did the prophet comment on the whole of the Quran according to Ibn Taymiyyah?

Journal Title: Marife Dini Araştırmalar Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 17, Issue 2

Abstract

There are three aspects about how much did the Prophet Mohammad explain the Holy Quran. Whereas some scholars hold that the amount explained by him was restricted by only some certain verses, some others assert that his explanations were in proportion to what the addressee were in need. And finally, as another aspect, it is claimed that the prophet Mohammad explained the whole Quran for the companians, which is attributed to Ibn Teymiyyah by some sources. This paper aims at dealing with the attribution of this aforementioned aspect to Ibn Teymiyyah, taking into consideration his exegesis theory, his beyan notion and his exegesis applications.
