An Analysis of Successful Primary Exchange Renal Transplant Processing In General Hospital

Abstract

We report the first swap kidney transplant at a public hospital in Milan after the 2011 amendment in the transplantation of Human Organs Act. This live unrelated transplant included two married couples. The patients were the husbands aged 53 and 52 years who were end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients and both were on dialysis from 8 months to 1 year. The complete transplant procedure, risks and benefits of the transplant surgery were explained to the patients and thereafter informed consents were taken from all the patients.
