An Efficient and Robust Metacrawler with Parallel Activities
Journal Title: International Journal on Computer Science and Engineering - Year 2010, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper presents the Metacrawler, a fielded Web service at represents the next level up in the information ``food hain.'' he Metacrawler provides a single, central interface for Web cument searching. Upon receiving a query, the etacrawler osts the query to multiple search services in arallel, collates returned references, and loads those eferences to verify heir existence and to ensure that they ontain relevant nformation. he Metacrawler is ufficiently ightweight to reside on a user's achine, which facilitates ustomization, privacy, ophisticated iltering of references, and more. Standard Web earch services, though useful, are far rom ideal. There are ver a dozen of ifferent search services currently in existence, ach with a nique interface and a atabase covering a ifferent ortion of the Web. As a result, sers are forced to epeatedly try nd retry their ueries across different services. Furthermore, he services eturn many esponses that are irrelevant, utdated, or navailable, forcing the user to manually sift rough the esponses searching for useful information.
