An Efficient Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) for Dynamic Optimal Power Flow in Active Distribution Networks

Abstract

Renewable Distributed Generations (DG) with high penetration becomes the requirement for Active Distribution Networks (ADN). In the proposed work, the Dynamic Optimal Power Flow output can be improved with the help of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which suits the power quality requirement. The power balance can be attained in ADN management. IEEE bus system is utilized to simulate the ADN and to measure the power flow and DG placement using MATLAB. DOPF is adapted in the power system for maintaining the power in the grid system. The work helps to provide one time solution for power loss and time optimization in the power flow system. Initially, line data, bus data and power flow data are analyzed and ACO is performed. According to the optimization, the DGs are placed over the ADN to provide a power control mechanism for the system. The experimental results are shown in the simulation graphs plotted against the existing PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization and is proved that ACO is efficient in reducing the power loss.
