AN EMERGENCE OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE ENTEROCOCCUS INFECTION AND ITS MANAGEMENT; AN OVERVIEW.

Journal Title: International Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR) - Year 2019, Vol 7, Issue 5

Abstract

Enterococci have emerged as a leading cause of nosocomial infections and now rank among the most common nosocomial pathogens isolated from the bloodstream, surgical sites, and urinary tract infections. E.faecalisaccounts for approximately 75% of all enterococcal infections, with E. faeciumaccounting for most of the rest. Enterococci have a remarkable ability to survive in an environment of heavy antibiotics. Indeed, it is resistance of organisms to multiple antimicrobial agents makes such feared opponents. Infections with vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) have become a threat in nosocomial settings, with an increased incidence reported worldwide including India. The emergence of resistance to the most common anti enterococcal antibiotics has made the treatment of these infections a real challenge for clinicians. This review study providing the current and possible future therapeutic options for the management of infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) E.faecalis.
