An Evaluation on the Socio-Demographic Aspects of Employees in the Wholesale Fish Markets

Abstract

This study was carried out intermittently in four major fish markets, Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and Trabzon between 2007 and 2011. A total of 151 employees, randomly selected were taken into consideration via face-to-face interviewing with questionnaire. The questionnaire includes age, marital status, work experience, duty, main job, supplementary work, run time, incomes, social insurance, smoke-alcohol consumptions and job security of the employee, and social conditions, workwear, meals, etc. of the markets. The handling procedures in wholesale fish markets are very important issue and these issues are concerning with education, level of knowledge and sociodemographic aspects of employees. However, determining of these knowledge levels is indispensable in terms of food safety.
