AN EXAMINATION ON CRITICISM CONSEPTION OF MUALLIM NACI

Abstract
Muallim Naci is a personality whose contributions to literary World are inarguable with his educator and writer qualifications. He strengthened these contributions in the field of criticism with his writings. But these haven’t prevented him to be the subject of remarkable debates in his period. The opinions which he defended haven’t been understood, polemics overshadowed his literary personality most of the time. Dispute between Recaizade Mahmud Ekrem and Muallim Naci caused him to be described as a conservative “old” supporter, this prejudice has hold on until today. In fact considering his works, it is seen that he is a character of moderation. Naci, although he is not against to innovation, he is the supporter of the idea that all kinds of innovation have to be synthesized with our national identity as much as possible. In this study, information about Naci’s Yazmış Bulundum, Mektublarım, Demdeme and Intikad works will be given, contents of these works will be scrutinized; attempts will be made to do some evaluations on the author’s literary figure on the basis of the discussed topics in these works.
