An Investigation about the Perceptions of Undergraduate Students Related to Higher Education Service Quality and Their Sense of Institutional Belongingness: Education Faculty Sample

Abstract

This study aims to identify the perceptions of university students related to higher education service quality and their sense of belongingness. This study has been conducted in Education Faculty of a state university in Mediterranean Region. Within the context of research, the data have been collected via Higher Education Service Quality Scale and University Student Views Related to Institutional Sense of Belongingness Questionnaire and the data have been analyzed with non-parametric tests. The results of this study indicate that higher education service quality in this institution is perceived above medium and university students’ perceptions related to higher education service quality significantly change depending on their departments, course attendances, class levels and grade point averages (GPA). Additionally, when it comes to institutional belongingness, approximately half of university students feel a sense of belongingness to their institution, have satisfactory feelings for studying in this institution and they think that they have made a correct choice for the institution they’ll study in. University students claim that it is a developed institution which is preferred by other university students, students of this institution feel safe at the institution because this institution provides necessary security, accept students’ problems as their own problems and lastly they prefer to serve in this institution after their graduation. Institutional belongingness of university students significantly change depending on their genders, departments, course attendances, class levels and grade point averages (GPA).
