Abstract

The peacetime established during the principality of Octavian Augustus promoted the realization of many public constructions and works throughout the territory of the Roman Empire. In order to regulate these constructions, many individual rules were adopted to discipline each work. The aim of these individual rules was, on the one hand, to prevent abuses by residents or pedestrians and, on the one hand, to set a penalty system to denounce those abuses and, as a final goal, to preserve public works, given the investment involved in their construction.
