Analysis and Improvement of Complex Modal Disc Brake NVH Performance

Abstract

Taking the car disc brake as research objective, the model of disc brake was established by threedimensional drawing software CATIA based on the complex eigenvalue modal theory. The ANSYS Workbench was used to analyze the complex modal of the model. The imaginary part value and the real part value of brake complex modal were simulated and compared to find out the characteristics and distribution of the braking noise under different friction coefficient ( μ = 0. 3 ~ 0. 6) . The friction block structure was improved. The noise, vibration, harshness ( NVH) tests were carried out respectively before and after improving the brake model with Dynampmeter-GIANT 8600 inertial test bench. The simulated result was compared with test results. The results indicate that the lower the friction coefficient of the brake pad, the smaller the noise probability of braking. The improved brake block which is chamfered and has digged groove can effectively reduce the frequency of the system unstable modal. Brake noise can be significantly reduced in slow motion, and the NVH performance of the brake is improved by 3. 2%.
