Analysis of and Selection Criteria for Methods of Cleaning of Ballast Water of Ship

Abstract
Wide spread of aquatic invasive microorganisms species from ships balast water is one of the most important problems that occurs in nowadays marine environment. This article reviews ballast water treatment methods: mechanical, physical and chemical. Basic concepts, advantages and disadvantages, as well as comparison of these methods are presented. All treatment methods must be safe to the environment and human health, especially if chemical substances are used. Possibly harmful chemical materials have to be safely stored and protected from accidentally contaminating the environment. The ready for release ballast water must be clean, uncontaminated with chemical substances and of the same/unchanged properties and characteristics. The ballast water treatment method selection criterias was analysed.
