Analysis of cases of Lyme borreliosis in children in Ternopil region

Abstract
Two hundred children were interviewed for the purpose of screening for a history of tick bite in somatic departments at Ternopil Regional Pediatric Hospital during July-August, 2016. As a result 32 children who have experienced tick bites were selected and interviewed using the modified forms of international questionnaire. The numbers of applications for the hospital medical care, refusal from hospitalization, prevalence of borreliosis were studied in the pediatric population by analyzing the medical records of children who were at hospital with somatic pathology for the period from January 2008 to August 2016. The study found the increased number of tick bites for 2015 and 2016. The age group of 7–12 years was found to be the most vulnerable, which accounts for 47 % of tick bites. Consequently, we must strengthen teaching and prevention activity among the students of the 1st to 5th forms.
