Analysis of factors which influence livestock farmers’environmental risk perception in coastal areas -A case study of Yancheng, Jiangsu

Abstract

Environmental risk perception and behavioral preferences was an important factor that influenced farmers’environmental behaviour and was affected by both internal and external factors. Taking Yancheng City as an example and based on the questionnaires of 121 farmers, this paper studied various environmental risk perception levels and behavioral preferences and used classified statistical method and the Stepwise Regression Model to analyze important factors that influenced behavioral preferences. The results showed that: (1) In terms of individual characteristics, the farmers’literacy affected their formation of environmental perception significantly and positively. Meanwhile, the older the farmers were and the lower the farming income was, the lower the environmental perception level was. (2) In terms of farming scale, the larger the farming scale was, the higher the environmental perception level was. (3) Concerning with social features, the more sensitive the farmers’perception of government subsidies was, the lower their environmental perception level was. What promote the formation of farmer’environmental perception behaviors indirectly were cooperating with other industries and the guidance on aquaculture technology. (4) The results of Stepwise Regression Model illustrated that education, subsidy satisfaction and revenue had a positive impact on their formation of environmental behavioral preferences. (5) It was a common that farmers were poor in the autonomy of behavioral preferences. And the government played an important role in the farmers’environmental perception and behavior preferences.
