ANALYSIS OF SELECTED ASPECTS OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN THE SLOVAK ECONOMY

Abstract
The paper focuses on what is the role of foreign direct investment in the Slovak economy. Foreign direct investment affects the internal economy. It determines the domestic companies production top quality products, enriches the assortment of goods produced for foreign markets, supports the workers qualification increase, new employment opportunities are formed, the unemployment in the region reduces and wages increase. For the time being the influence of foreign companies on Slovak economy is on the increase. This is due largely to large multinational companies, though small companies are also doing quiet well, particularly in the food industry The biggest foreign strategic investors in Slovakia include the following countries of origin: Austria, Germany, United States, Fane, Korea and Netherlands. Analyses carried out in this article, we show that FDI play an irreplaceable role in the economic development of the Slovak Republic. Search for strategic investors for individual enterprises has played a significant role in the industrial policy of each of the Slovak government since 1989, respectively since 2003.
