Analysis of the application of the patient safety program in the emergency area of the Delfina Torres de Concha hospital

Abstract

Introduction: currently the safety or integrity of the patient in Health Units forms a base mechanism in the effectiveness of care services, so it is necessary to implement programs that allow reducing adverse events in patients associated with unsafe care. Objective:The objective of this study was to carry out an analysis of the application of the patient safety program in the emergency area of the Delfina Torres de Concha hospital. Materials and methods:the descriptive-cross-sectional methodology used, used quantitative research, applying the Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety Culture (MOSPS) questionnaire addressed to 30 health professionals who participated voluntarily. Results:As results, it was determined that 100% of the health personnel of the service have knowledge regarding hand hygiene, patient identification and correct administration of medications, 40% sometimes identify adverse events and 87% they notify them. Conclusions:It was concluded that the staff fully complies with safe practices related to direct patient care such as hand hygiene, patient identification and correct medication administration, but not in relation to the identification and notification of adverse events. for fear of being reprimanded
