ANALYSIS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN ORGANIC AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS

Abstract

The article substantiates the expediency of developing international trade of organic agricultural products, which has a number of apparent environmental, economic, and social benefits, and offers specific actions for government support for this development. Based on the author’s integral index of world organic market development, a ranking of the countries is made and their positions in the world organic market are determined; varieties of national strategies for the formation of international trade in organic agricultural products (trade and consumer, trade and production, production and consumer, the specified group of countries with unformed strategy) are presented. It is proven that in order to develop international trade in agricultural products for the achievement of the sustainable development goals, it is important for the governments to encourage agricultural producers to switch to organic agriculture, to cultivate a consumption culture among the population, and international institutions have to improve the international trade policy with the help of updated instruments for agricultural goods trade regulation.
