ANALYSIS OF WAVELET TRANSFORM AND FAST WAVELET TRANSFORM FOR IMAGE COMPRESSION: REVIEW
Journal Title: International Journal of Advanced Research in Computer Engineering & Technology(IJARCET) - Year 2012, Vol 1, Issue 5
Abstract
A Detailed study of discrete wavelet transform and fast wavelet transform has been presented in this paper. Older techniques for image compression such as FFT and DCT have also been discussed. Wavelet analysis represents the next logical step: a windowing technique with variable-sized regions. Wavelet analysis allows the use of long time intervals where we want more precise low-frequency information, and shorter regions where we want high-frequency information. Wavelet Based Analysis provide one of the common goals of image compression i.e. the signal or image clearance and simplification, which are parts of de-noising or compression. Fast Wavelet Transform is the latest technique of wavelet transform that is used to perform image analysis at a faster scale than discrete wavelet transform. Mallat Algorithm for Fast Wavelet transform have been presented. Image Compression for different techniques including FFT, DCT, DWT and FWT has been presented in terms of compression ratios and their PSNR values for image quality.
