ANKLE MUSCLES IN STABLE AND UNSTABLE SURFACE ELECTROMYOGRAPHY ACTIVITY ANALYSIS

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2014, Vol 30, Issue 4

Abstract

Background. The ankle injuries are a serious medical and sport problems, injury to occur often leads to habitual damage within the joint and thus a recurrent injury, exercises to strengthen the muscles stabilizing the ankle, improve neuromuscular control including proprioception and postural stability may prevent problem. The aim of the present study was that analyze the electromyographic activity of tibia lis anterior, tibialis posterior, peroneus brevis, gastrocnemius lateralis and gastrocnemius medialis (anklestabilizing muscles) on the stable and unstable ground with eyes open and closed.Material and methods. The study included 20 healthy women aged 25-35 years who were performing the task of maintaining balance for 15 seconds, on a stable and unstable surface with their eyes open and closed.Results. As a result of research there was a significant increase in activity of muscles in an unstable with respect to the stable surface. The studied muscles showed increased electromyographic activity of the sample with eyes closed than with eyes open.Conclusions. Standing on unstable surfaces generate a significant increase in electromyographic activity, especially with his eyes closed, and is therefore a valuable form aimed at improving the efficiency of sensory-motor ankle.
