Antioxidant activity of superoxide dismutase in relation to the neurological complications in diabetes mellitus
Journal Title: International Journal of Medical and Health Research - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 8
Abstract
Aim: The antioxidant activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) was evaluated with the duration of neurological problems like poly/sensory neuropathy due to diabetes. Material and Method: The study was conducted with 55 diabetes patients with poly/sensory neuropathy from the out patients endocrinology department of Ramakrishna Mission Sevapratishthan, Kolkata, along with 25 healthy controls. All the procedure of the study was followed with the consent of the participants. In this study, the patients have been selected after nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test for identifying the poly/sensory nerve dysfunction. The SOD activity of the RBC lysate was determined. Result: In our study, the SOD activity was increased with the duration of neurological dysfunction in relation to diabetes. Conclusion: The increase in activity with duration of the diabetic neuropathy may be a result of protective mechanism against oxidative stress developing in the tissue.

A clinical study of neonatal sepsis in term and preterm neonates with special reference to C-Reactive protein
During the last decades advances in neonatal intensive care have led to an impressive decrease of neonatal mortality and morbidity. However, infectious episodes in the early postnatal period still remain serious and pote...
Giant gluteal mass of tuberculosis origin
Introduction: Tuberculosis is a common pathology in TB-endemic areas and is not unique in developed countries in immigrants or immunosuppressed individuals. Case Report: This study reports a case of giant tuberculous abs...
Assessment of magnesium sulphate on decreasing hemodynamic stress responses during laparoscopic abdominal surgeries
Anaesthesia and surgery induced stress response can be modulated by premedication drugs. Magnesium blocks release of catecholamine from both adrenergic nerve terminals and adrenal gland. Intravenous magnesium sulphate in...
Original Article: bacteriological profile and antimicrobial resistance pattern of blood culture isolates in neonatal sepsis JLN Hospital, Ajmer
Background: Septicemia in neonates refers to generalized bacterial infection documented by a positive blood culture in a first 4 weeks of life & is one of the four leading causes of neonatal mortality in India. The emerg...
Dexamethasone as an adjuvant to Bupivacaine: Lignocaine in supraclavicular brachial plexus block for patients undergoing upper limb surgery: A comparative study
Introduction: Use of adjuvant prolongs the brachial plexus block. Local anesthetics with various adjuvants are used to increase the duration of postoperative analgesia in supraclavicular brachial plexus block. Perineural...
