Antioxidative responses and expression of insecticidal proteins in Bt cotton under high irradiance
Journal Title: Журнал ÑтреÑÑ-физиологии и биохимии - Year 2011, Vol 7, Issue 3
Abstract
Effect of high irradiance (HI) on the activity of antioxidant enzymes, rate of lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide accumulation were investigated in non Bt and Bt cotton. The accumulation of malondialdehyde (MDA) and H[sub]2[/sub]O[sub]2[/sub] was higher in Bt cotton. Sustained cultivation of Bt cotton requires stable transgene expression under HI stress. In the present study, Bt toxin proteins (Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab), which are essential for the control of lepidopteron pests, were found to be reduced in Bt cotton under HI stress.

Effect of Drought Stress on Some Physiological Traits of Durum (Triticum durum Desf.) and Bread (Triticum aestivum L.) Wheat Genotypes
Drought is a wide-spread problem seriously influencing wheat production and quality worldwide. We aimed to study adaptive changes in physiological parameters of 6 durum and 7 bread wheat genotypes under drought stress. W...
Salinity Stress Effects on Growth and Nitrate Assimilation in Bean Seedlings Likely to be Mediated via Nitric Oxide
Background : Salinity stress usually imposes adverse effects on plant systems, but the severity depends upon plant species, growth status and genotype, nutritional and environmental conditions etc. Present study a...
The Response of Some Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) Genotypes for Salt Stress during Germination and Seedling Stage
Salinity is one of the most significant abiotic factors affecting growth and yield of cowpea in arid and semi-arid areas of the world. Nineteen cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) genotypes were tested during germination and see...
The Daily Dynamics of Phenolic Compounds Content and Guaiacol-Peroksidase Activity in Leaves and Flowers of Alchemilla subcrenata and Veronica chamaedrys
The daily dynamics of peroxidase activity and the total content of phenolic compounds in leaves and inflorescences of Alchemilla subcrenata Buser and Veronica chamaedrys L. were studied. Significant changes...
Influence of Waterlogging on Carbohydrate Metabolism in Ragi and Rice Roots
Effect of different durations of waterlogging (4, 8 and 12 days) stress on carbohydrate status and activities of some related enzymes in ragi and rice roots was studied. In both ragi and rice roots there was decrease in...
