Antiviral activity of sukomycin against Potato Virus Y and Tomato Mosaic Virus
Journal Title: Journal of BioScience and Biotechnology - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
Potato Virus Y (PVY) and Tomato Mosaic Virus (ToMV) are one of the most important plant viruses that strongly influence the quality and quantity of vegetable production and cause substantial losses to farmers. The most conventional and common method of pest and disease control is through the use of pesticides. Unfortunately, most of them are synthetic compounds without antiviral activities and possess inherent toxicities that endanger the health of farm operators, consumers and the environment. In order to carry out a control of viral infections in plants and to reduce the loss of production it is necessary to search for alternative and environmentally friendly methods for control. Sukomycin is a complex of substances with antimicrobial and antiviral activities produced from Streptomyces hygroscopicus isolated from soil. This natural complex significantly reduces symptoms and DAS-ELISA values of Potato virus Y and Tomato mosaic virus in tobacco plants.

Isolation and screening of biopolyester (poly-β-hydroxybutyrate) producing bacteria from compost samples in Bangladesh
Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) is the simplest member of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) that are biological polyesters or biopolymers produced by a wide variety of bacteria as an intracellular storage material of carbon and...
Breeding potential of the field pea (Pisum sativum L.) cultivars and their progenies
The inheritance and gene effects structure were investigated for ten quantitative traits in field cultivars by a full diallel model of four parents – the cultivars Kerpo, Pleven 10, Mir and EFB33. Overdominance was...
In silico sequence analysis and homology modeling of predicted beta-amylase 7-like protein in Brachypodium distachyon L.
Beta-amylase (β-amylase, EC 3.2.1.2) is an enzyme that catalyses hydrolysis of glucosidic bonds in polysaccharides. In this study, we analyzed protein sequence of predicted beta-amylase 7-like protein in Brachypodi...
Genomic changes in speciation of the family Chironomidae, Diptera
The mode of speciation adopted by a species or group of related species of animals (insects) is clearly determined to a certain extent by the architecture of their genetic system. Chromosome rearrangements, the loc...
Biosynthesis of highly unsaturated fatty acids by hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms
Disruption of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) metabolism leads to many diseases. In this study, producers of γ-linolenic acid (GLA), arachidonic acid (ARA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) were selected: Cephalos...
