Abstract
This paper deals with the application of mental mapping to create a Development strategy of Microregion Dolina Voľanského potoka (Valley of the Voľa creek). Par - ticipation of the population is very important for the issue of the regional develop - ment. The concept and use of the mental maps in geography began in the 1960‘s in the Anglo-Saxon area. It is the expression of people ́s ideas about geographic space. Mental mapping is one of the tools that can help to obtain the inhabitants‘ opinions about the place where they live. The main task of respondents of our re - search was to specify the activities, which are important and which are missing in the village, and situate it into the mental map
