Application of chlorine dioxide for secondary effluent polishing
Journal Title: International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology - Year 2004, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
There are still many difficulties for developing the projects of using treated effluents. In this study, the efficiency of chlorine deoxide in the process of preparing the effluent of Sahebgharanieh Plant of Tehran for reuse purposes has been determind. Major results are as follows: Total COD reductions resulted from effluent treatment by ClO2 solutions having concentrations equal to 1/4, 1/2 and 1/1 of COD samples at one hour contact time have been about 42%, 49% and 59% respectively. Total suspended solids were also reduced by treatment with ClO2 solutions having the certain concentrations mentioned, and the reductions were about 37% ,47% and 58% respectively. Besides total and fecal coliforms results indicated that ClO2 apllied was quite efficient in effluent disinfection. The conclusion is that reasonable reductions would be expected in the amounts of remained major pollutants and so reuse applications for some non-potable purposes may become possible. The acidification of chlorite has been used for ClO2 generation as it is better suited to small treatment systems.

High rate anaerobic treatment of Sago wastewater using HUASB with PUF as carrier
Sago industry is one of the major small-scale sectors in India and over 800 units are located in the southern State of Tamilnadu. Processing of sago generates enormous quantities of high strength wastewater requiring sys...
Rectangular tank surface aerators: scale up criteria and energy conservation
Surface aeration experiments were conducted in two types of rectangular tanks of aspect ratios i.e., length to width ratio (L/W) of 1.5 and 2 and developed simulation equations to correlate the oxygen transfer coefficien...
Pollution reduction and biodegradability index improvement of tannery effluents
Al2 (SO4)3, 18H2O, FeCl3 and Ca (OH)2 were used for the treatment of tannery wastewaters. The influences of pH and coagulant dosages were studied. Conditions were optimised according to the pollutant removal efficiencies...
Germination and seedling growth of corn (Zea mays l.) under varying levels of copper and zinc
The heavy metal tolerance in corn (Zea mays L.) var. ‘Neelum’ was assessed at germination and seedling growth after having subjected it to different concentrations of CuSO4 and ZnSO4. Germination was not affected by any...
