Application of Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis for Ranking Dairy Farms in the View of Energy Efficiency
Journal Title: Journal of Animal Production Advances - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 6
Abstract
Fuzzy data envelopment analysis (FDEA) model was used to solve the ranking problem of dairy farms for milk production in Iran with α-cut approach at eleven α-levels. It is widely accepted that measuring precise data for production systems cannot show the real situations; to overcome this shortage, fuzzy data envelopment is of great interest, especially in efficiency assessments which data errors are important. Different energy inputs including fossil fuels, electricity, machinery and equipment, human labour, feed and water were considered as input factors and energy output (including milk and cow manure) was the output parameter in determining the efficient units. The total energy consumption was 53.1 GJ cow-1 and the top two energy consuming inputs as feed intake and fossil fuel drew the fact that promoting input utilization efficiency seems critical. The benchmarking process indicated that 24 farmers from the 50 target dairy farms are efficient. Two units were known as sensitive units to fuzzy situation. Also, units were ranked according to their efficiency score. This study showed that FDEA can be quite useful for ranking purposes in agriculture using imprecise energy data.

Effects of Supplemental Papain on Egg Production and Quality, Serum and Liver Traits of Laying Hens
This study investigated the effects of papain supplementation on egg production and quality, serum and liver traits of laying hens. Sixty 75-week-old white Leghorn laying hens were randomly assigned into control (base di...
Growth Performance, Feed Preference and Circadian Variation in Behavioural Traits of Rabbits Reared Singly and in Group
The study was carried out to determine (1) the effect of feed type on feed preference, (2) the effect of group (GRR) or single (SRR) rearing on performance and duration of behavioural traits, and (3) the behavioural patt...
Haemoglobin Polymorphism in Red Sokoto Goats of Nigeria
This study describes the genetic structure from the Hb locus in goats of the Red Sokoto type. The haemotypification of the individuals at the Hb locus was achieved by Cellulose acetate electrophoresis. The haemoglobin po...
Effect of Ambient Temperature on Reproductive and Physiological Traits of Nigerian Indigenous Chickens
Genetic adaptation and response to selection depend on genetic variation within and between populations, whereas characterization of the population is a first step towards its improvement. This study demonstrates that va...
Penile Protrusion with Hemorrhages and Prepucial Inflammation in Pigs Experimentally Infected with Trypanosoma Congolense
The course of experimental Trypanosoma congolense infection in local domestic pigs was examined. Fifteen (n=15) locally bread domestic, mixed sex pigs were experimentally infected with T. congolense and divided into thre...
