Application of Metallic and Polymer Foams in Automotive Body Shells

Abstract
— The general purpose of paper is to identify areas within a vehicle‟s body where either metallic or polymer foams could be incorporated. During the work it must be demonstrated which areas are the most appropriate and how the benefit from the use of these materials. Several concepts are to be developed which in turn are then reviewed by using appropriate design tools. The best concept is verified in terms of robustness, noise factors, failure modes and functionality a dynamic model. The costs are estimated and the final design is presented.
