Application of Remote Sensing Techniques for Mapping Shifting Cultivation
Journal Title: International Journal of engineering Research and Applications - Year 2017, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
Shifting cultivation is an ancient and primitive method of cultivation, also referred to as ‘slash and burn’ or ‘rotational bush fallow agricultural system’. The practice mainly involves removal of the forests by primitive slash and burn technique followed by mixed cropping for short period before abandoning the site. Tribals all over India are known to follow the practice of shifting cultivation with some regional variatio ns. The present study has been undertaken to estimate the spatial distribution of podu cultivation in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh by using remote sensing techniques. Results of the present study indicate that an estimated area of 10,491.857 acres of the forest area is under shifting cultivation in Srikakulam district. Shifting cultivation has caused a great deal of environmental degradation. Remote sensing techniques with repetitive coverage and synoptic view provide database for assessing environment degrading practices. Mapping of shifting areas is important not only from ecological point of view but also for management purposes.

Study of Factors Causing Cost Overrun in Construction Industry Using AHP Technique: A Review
Cost overrun has become a serious problem in construction sector. When the project could not be completed in estimated time at given budget then cost overrun occurs which is excess of actual cost over budget. These overr...
Snapping During Gas Welding
Welding is a process used by many construction and manufacturing firms. Dating back to the ancient times, gas welding evolved from simple melting iron methods to more sophisticated forms and equipment that aid in safe an...
Thermodynamic Simulation of Steam Power Cycles using GUIMatLab Interfaces
Steam power cycles are constituted by a series of thermodynamic processes that aim convert the thermal energy of a fluid in mechanical work, which can then be transformed into electrical energy. There are many types of s...
Mild balanced Intuitionistic Fuzzy Graphs
In this paper, we introduce intense subgraphs and feeble subgraphs based on their densities and discuss mild balanced IFG and equally balanced intuitionistic fuzzy subgraphs and their properties. The operations “sum” and...
