Journal Title: New Medicine - Year 2010, Vol 14, Issue 3

Abstract

Summary Language disturbances, next to formal thinking disturbances, form one of the basic criteria of diagnosing schizophrenia. One of the language disturbances described in literature, is schizophasia which is associated with disorders in the functioning of cerebral structures, especially the temporal and left prefrontal areas of the brain. Aim. The aim of this study was to analyze language disturbances in a 60 year old female patient with paranoid schizophrenia. Material and Method. The DSM-IV classification and Short Evaluation Scale of Schizophasia (‘SESS’) were used in the psychiatric examination of the patient with paranoid schizophrenia. Results. The examined patient achieved the score of 10 points in the Short Evaluation Scale of Schizophasia, which is a proof of an acute phase of schizophasia. Conclusions. High intensity of schizophasia symptoms is often associated with a bad prognosis of a psychotic disease.
