APPRECIATION EXPERIMENTALE DE L’UNIFORMITE DE DISTRIBUTION DE L’EAU DANS LE PERIMETRE IRRIGUE ZAAFRANA II (TUNISIE CENTRALE)

Abstract
Tunisia has limited water resources which are increasingly requested. To cope with this situation, the state has established a national strategy for water saving in order to rationalize the water use which will allow to make the most economic profit and to maintain the demand for irrigation at a level compatible with the available water resources. This can be achieved through the improvement of the efficiency of the irrigation networks and the use of water-saving irrigation techniques. This study examines the public irrigated perimeter Zaafrana II of the delegation of Bouhajla (Kairouan region, Central Tunisia) rehabilitated in 2005. This area is well equipped with water saving systems with a rate of 85%; and 39% of the total area is occupied by a drip irrigation installations, the most efficient water saving technology. In this study, the uniformity of water distribution in a plot equipped by a drip system was evaluated on the basis of uniformity test, the uniformity coefficients were calculated by the formula of Keller and Karmeli. The experiment was conducted in 2010 in a plot composed by of 10 units cultivated with pepper and covering a total area of 4 ha. For each of these ten units, the values of the average flow rates of the 16 considered drippers have yielded a coefficients uniformity that greatly exceed the 90% (varying between 96.7% and 98.5%). These results show the good state of the plot irrigation system and the absence of the problem of clogging under the considered experimental conditions. Similarly, small differences between the measured flow rates and the drippers nominal flow rates not exceeding the 5% were observed, showing the good quality of water distribution in the studied plot.
