Approaches to the classification of payment systems in Ukraine

Abstract
The research investigates the classification of payment systems based on the current payment legislation in order to ensure an adequate level of legal regulation of payment systems, their security and reliability by improving the current legislation. It establishes the characteristic features of each type of payment systems, determines the classification of payment systems and indicates the differences and features of structural and legal form of payment system. In general, in Ukraine payment systems are classified depending on the following: area of operation, resident status of participants, type of payment institutions, form of ownership, etc. This paper studies the classification of payment systems depending on their role in the financial system of the country. The research also focuses on modern electronic payment systems and the need to create the legal basis for them in Ukraine.
