ARESZTOWANIA KSIĘŻY W PARAFII WIŻAJNY W 1939 ROKU JAKO NASTĘPSTWO LOKALNEGO KONFLIKTU WYZNANIOWO-NARODOWOŚCIOWEGO

Abstract
The article presents first arrests of priests in Łomża region in the year 1939, drawing on unpublished memoirs of Felician Franciscan sisters who were witnesses to Father Stanisław Maciątek being arrested in Wiżajny. An attempt is made to present the background of the ethnic conflict in Wiżajny region and the role of the pastors of the Evangelical church. It is pointed out how dislike and hatred can spiral out of control causing much tragedy.
