Arrest of Ships: Trends of Ukrainian Law Enforcement Practice

Abstract
The article is devoted to the research and analysis of the current judicial practice in cases of arrest of ships, taking into account the features of the system of legal regulation of this maritime law institute at both national and international levels. The author defines the concept of securing of maritime claims and arrest of ships, examines actual issues arising during the consideration of cases of arrest of ships, special attention is drawn to the rules for determining the jurisdiction of this category of cases. The necessity of improving the current legislation of Ukraine in the mentioned field of legal relations is argued. The author notes that, despite of progressiveness of modern Ukrainian law enforcement practice at a resolution of cases on arrest of vessels and also considering a possibility of realization the right to arrest of a vessel in full accordance with requirements of the existing national legislation, there are still certain difficulties predetermined by the need of improvement the current legislation of Ukraine for the purpose of compliance to the international principles and the world marine practice of arrest of vessels.
