Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy complicated by thrombus formation (RCD code: III-4)
Journal Title: Journal of Rare Cardiovascular Diseases - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 5
Abstract
Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is caused by replacement of myocardial cells by lipocytes and fibrocytes. The disease is associated with life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. Echocardiography is an easily accessible and useful diagnostic tool in these patients We present a case of an ARVC patient with high risk of sudden cardiac death and thrombus formation in the right ventricle. Double-chambered left ventricle in a young previously healthy man presenting for a routine echocardiographic study (RCD code: IV-1B.2o)
A double-chambered left ventricle (DCLV) constitutes a rare congenital malformation. It is usually diagnosed at a neonatal or pediatric age, and often exhibits mixed criteria for diverticulae and aneurysms. This anomaly...
The atrial septal defect diagnosed in the senility – the benefit of the transcatheter closure (RCD code: IV‑2B.1)
Objective: Closure of the atrial septal defect in the elderly patients is controversial. The aim of the study was to evaluate the outcomes of transcatheter closure of secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) in elderly patien...
Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia in Benghazi, Libya; a population‑based study of incidence and prevalence (RCD code: I‑O)
Background: Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder characterised by the formation of aberrant arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Few studies have described the epidemiolog...
Pulmonary arterial hypertension after systemic‑to‑pulmonary shunt correction (RCD code: II-1A.4d)
Pulmonary arterial hypertension develops in a significant number of patients with congenital heart diseases. Congenital heart diseases predispose to pulmonary vascular remodeling as a result of increased pulmonary blood...
Female patient after correction of tetralogy of Fallot with severe pulmonary regurgitation and significant left-to-right shunt at the ventricular septal level (RCD code: IV-5A2)
Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease after 1 year of age. Less than 5% of all patients with uncorrected ToF live beyond the age of 40 years. Prognosis after surgical correction i...
