Art Therapy and its Application in the Field of Education

Abstract

The article broaches the subject of art therapy, which is also known as therapy through art. The activities carried out within it are based on the use of the therapeutic properties of the art practice. Art therapy is an extremely large concept and contains in itself many therapies based on its actions in art. Art therapy includes: therapy, which is based on plastic arts, music therapy, bibliotherapy, dramatherapy, dancetherapy and others. Writing about the properties of art therapy should also mention cinema therapy, culture therapy, horticultural therapy and occupational therapy. This article is a review and the aim of the publication is to show to the reader how wide a spectrum of interaction art therapy is. The article presents problems of definition in the field of art therapy. Attention was also drawn to the art itself, which is an integral part. Detailed techniques have also been shown in the field of art therapy and it also shows the functions that art therapy performs in in the area of education. Above all, the article shows the art therapist’s role in the therapeutic process. The article also included issues of art therapy in the context of education. Among them were areas of its application among children and a review of selected literature items, useful in art therapy activity.
