Articulation disorders in people with cleft lip and cleft palate

Abstract
Introduction: People with cleft lip and/or cleft palate frequently experience specificspeechproblems,mostly nasality and articulation disorders.Aim of the study: To discuss articulation disorders in people with cleft lip and/or cleft palate on the basis of literature and own observation.Material and methods: The speech of 102 people with lip and/or cleft palate was examined.Results: All the subjects with cleft lip and/or cleft palate had problems with correct articulation.Conclusion: Children with cleft lip and/or cleft palate should be prescribed speech therapy from the day of birth. Speech therapy can last for a long time, even over a dozen years.
