Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Research and Review - Year 2017, Vol 8, Issue 11

Abstract

The study assessed by determining the effect of Simulation game method in teaching Economics among Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in Katsina State, Nigeria. Determining the mean test score obtained by experimental and control group; differences on the mean test score obtained by the experimental and control group were the objectives of the study. Post only control group quasi-experimental design was used for the study. The population of the study consisted of 89 SSII students offering Economics from Government Day Secondary School Dutsin-ma and Government Pilot Day Secondary School Dutsin-ma. Random sampling technique was used. An illustration of a Simulation game method in teaching micro Economics by Singh, (2007) was adopted and used for data collection. The hypothesis was tested at α = 0.05 level of significance. Marking scheme (scored over 40) was developed validated and used. Inter-rater score reliability Kappah = 0.89 was obtained from the sample of marked scripts. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings from the study show that mean score = 21.54 obtained by the experimental group was higher compared to the mean score = 16.67 obtained by the control group; and there is no significant (F= .020, p > 0.05) difference between the mean score obtained by the experimental and control group. The use of Simulation game method in teaching Economics in SSS and similar study to be carried out was the recommendations made from the study
