ASSOCIATION OF CONCEPTS OF TENDENCY TO TELEVISION, IDENTIFICATION AND MEDIA LITERACY: A RESEARCH ON CHILDREN IN ADOLESCENCE PERIOD

Abstract
The aim of this research is to associate concepts of tendency to television, identification and media literacy and by examining the levels of tendency to television, identification and media literacy of children in adolescence period to identify the effects of social structure on these concepts, obtain if there is any change in their social lives and if there is change to interpret how this change occured. Intended for this aim, total of 1133 students educated in sixth, seventh and eighth grades were applied quota sampling and face-to-face interview method. The datas obtained from these questionnaires were evaluated by SPSS programme and they were analysed by correlation, multiple correlation, One-Way analysis and Independent-Samples T Tests. At the end of applied analysis, there obtained medium level of significant relation between social structure and tendency to televsion with identification whereas low level of significant relation with media literacy. Also there obtained medium level of significant relation between tendency to television and identification whereas low level of significant relation with media literacy. Between media literacy and identification there obtained medium level of significant relation. Also it was obtained that tendency to television of children in adolescence period shows difference according to level of income of parents as well as their gender creates difference on their tendency of television. According to the results of model settled in research, it was identified that tendency to television model is consisted of social structure and media literacy and the social structure is more dominant than media literacy on tendency to television of children. When identification was analysed, it was found out that social structure, tendency to television and media literacy factors on identification. According to this, it was obtained that the most effective factor on identification is media literacy. In model studying regarding the last concept media literacy, it was obtained that only social structure and tendency to television has an effect on media literacy. It was also found out that on this model the effect of tendency to television is more than social structure.
