Attitude towards Collaborative Learning Scale: A Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop a reliable and valid scale to measure students’ attitude toward collaborative learning. Sample of the research consisted of 344 undergraduate students in Duzce University Faculty of Education. 5 point Likert type scale used to measute attitude of students. Draft scale was formed with 51 items. To identify construct validity of “Attitude towards Collaborative Learning Scale” (AtCLS), explanatory factor analysis (EFA) was managed. After these process, scale was formed with 28 items as unidimensional that explained % 45,40 of total variance. As unidimensional scale, AtCLS, % 45,40 was supposed to be enough. After explanatory factor analysis, the validity of construct was tested with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). As a result of CFA, it can be said that model had a good integration. Also item analysis about item total correlation was done and the lowest item total correlation was found as 0,50. Cronbach Alpha reliability coeffcient and split-half reliability were computed to identify reliability. Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient calculated as 0,95 whereas split-half reliability were computed as 0,90. The results of explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis revealed that scale items had acceptable factor loadings and item-total correlations. It was revealed that internal consistency was at good level. It was supposed that AtCLS was reliable and valid hence could be used to measure students’ attitude toward collaborative learning.
