Abstract
The article deals with issues related to the availability, dispersion and condition of Galician birth records, which, seemingly, constitute at present the major problem faced by a scholar doing research on this matter. An important factor seems to be also the abundance of records, which, on the one hand, confirms their value, on the other, impedes the full utilisation of their informational potential. This very issue is described in the following part of the article, where the authors present their own proposition how to face the problem, by offering a ready-made database, prepared by themselves (“Galician birth records”). Such records may facilitate and accelerate the research on the natural flow of population performed by means of this highly interesting source, thanks to the designed forms and a series of enhancing functions.
