BEEF PRODUCTION IN STEERS F1 ROMO-ZEBU WITH GRASS ANGLETON (Dichanthium aristatum) ENSILAGES AND SUPPLEMENTS IN SINÚ VALLEY
Journal Title: Revista MVZ Cordoba - Year 2006, Vol 11, Issue 2
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the rate of growth of steers F1 romosinuano for zebu and of steers commercial zebu under conditions of efficient handling of pastures and of strategic supplementation during dry season. Materials and methods: Beef production of steers F1 romo x zebu and zebu was evaluated in rotational grazing of angleton under the Sinú valley, department of Córdoba conditions. The experiment had a duration of 289 days that included a complete dry season. During the rain season, the animals were supplandyfego@hotmail.comemented with a kilo of cotton seed per day, and in the dry season besides grazing it was given on the average 10 kilos of silage of corn balanced with .02% of urea ammonium-sulfate and supplemented with a kilo of seed of cotton plus half kilo of rice polishing. Results. In pasture was considered the production of dry material, chemical composition and digestibility In Situ of dry material. The load was of 4 animals per hectare which were weighed every 24 days. The weigh averages gain was of 0.660 and 0.728 kg/anim/day, respectively for the F1 and zebu, without statistical differences (p> 0.05). Conclusion. Beef production per hectare year was of 963.6 and 1062.8 kilograms for F1 and zebu respectively. The production cost per kilo of beef was of US$0.38 for F1 and US$0.34 for zebu demonstrating a good rent.
