BEGINNING OF THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHING OF HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY OF THE SOUTHERN UKRAINE IN THE SECOND THIRD OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract
The article describes the first period of researching of the historical geography of the South of Ukraine. Apollon Skalkovsky (1808–1898) was a first researcher who learnes historical geography of the Northern Black Sea Coast. Increasing of interest to the historical geography of the region linked with foundation of Odessa Society of history and ancientries at 1839. Founders and active members of the Society Nicholas Murzakevych, Nicholas Nadyezhdin and Philip Bruun learned material, written, cartographical and toponymical monuments of the South of Ukraine. It is lined the main problems which interested researchers of historical geography of the Northern Black Sea Coast.
